Google App Version 5.3 Brings Now On Tap Functionality For Google Now – Tech Times

Users of Android Marshmallow preview 3 will soon try the Google Now on Tap functionality as Google is now rolling out Google App version 5.3.

Devices with Android 4.4 and higher, reports say, are eligible to get the update. However, it was reported that only Android M preview 3 devices will experience the perks of the update.

A few months ago, the company announced that the Now on Tap feature would not be included in the Android M preview testers. The update though may imply that Google has changed its mind.

Meanwhile, the update also brings the vertical scrolling app drawer to the Google Now Launcher.

“Google Now gets you just the right information at just the right time. It tells you today’s weather before you start your day, how much traffic to expect before you leave for work, and more,” reads the product description of Google Now.

Tech Times earlier reported the announcement of the company on the arrival of Google Now On Tap and Android M during the Google I/O 2015 last May.

Now On Tap allows the users to search and access information without leaving their current app.

This feature of Android 6.0 Marshmallow provides the user details on whatever the user is interested in. For instance, when the user is listening to a song and he or she wants to know the real name of the singer, the user will only ask Google Now on Tap, “What’s the real name of the singer?” The feature will understand the user and will then give the answer. The information will be delivered to the user thru a card.

Aparna Chennapragada, director of product management of Google, unveiled the feature both at a Google I/O session as well as a blog post.

“Google can show you apps from your phone that may help with what you’re doing based on your context-IMDb for movie reviews, OpenTable for reservations, and many more,” the director said. “We hope Now on tap can make your phone a little bit smarter and help you get things done quicker and in far fewer steps.”

Users who may want to download the latest update will just head to Google Play Store and check if it is available for their devices. Users may also get the APK file from the APKMirror and sideload the update.
