The BankAmericard Travel Rewards® credit card isn’t like most travel credit cards. Not only does the card provide the opportunity to get up to a 75% points bonus through the Bank of America® Preferred Rewards program and double points when you book travel through its Travel Center, but it also comes with an introductory 0% APR, which is relatively rare among travel cards.

If you’re planning a big vacation, the BankAmericard Travel Rewards® credit card deserves some serious consideration. Let’s take a look at the possibilities.

The BankAmericard Travel Rewards® credit card offers a flat 1.5 points per dollar spent, regardless of what you’re buying. While some travel cards offer 2 points or more per dollar spent on travel purchases, there’s no need to feel like you’re missing out. Book your travel through Bank of America®’s Travel Center, and you’ll get 3 points per dollar spent (up to $6,000 in airline purchases and unlimited on everything else, excluding insurance).

The card also comes with a nice sign-up bonus: NEW OFFER! 20,000 online bonus points if you make at least $1,000 in purchases in the first 90 days — that can be a $200 statement credit toward travel purchases. And it offers a 0% Introductory APR on purchases for 12 billing cycles, and then the ongoing APR of 14.99% – 22.99% Variable.

Say you and your significant other are planning a weeklong tropical getaway, and your expenses are $1,200 for flights and $2,000 for an all-inclusive resort, for a total of $3,200. Booking everything on the Travel Center will net you 9,600 points (3,200 x 3 = 9,600), worth $96 when redeemed for travel. Your spending will also be enough to earn the card’s sign-up bonus, adding an extra 20,000 points, earning you total rewards worth $296.

But that’s not all. With the card’s 0% introductory APR, you’ll save on interest if you pay off the balance before the introductory period is over. To put that into perspective, if you were to put the purchases on a different credit card with an 18% APR and pay it off in 12 months, you’d pay $320.51 in interest. Altogether, between earned rewards and avoided interest, you’re saving $616.51 for your next trip. Not bad for a what’s considered a mid-range travel card.

Get flexibility out of your points

Once you’re ready to book your next trip, redeeming your BankAmericard Travel Rewards® credit card points is easier than in most travel programs. Although you can’t transfer your points to other rewards programs, Bank of America® has the most liberal list of redeemable travel purchases the Nerds know of.

Redemption starts at 2,500 points and redemption categories include, but are not limited to: airlines, hotels, motels, resorts, car-rental companies, cruise lines, travel agencies, tour operators, taxicabs, limousines, passenger trains, ferries, buses, real estate rentals, timeshares, campgrounds, RV rentals, tourist attractions, art dealers and galleries, amusement parks, carnivals, circuses, fortunetellers, aquariums, boat rentals and other recreation services. You have 12 months after your travel purchase to redeem your points for a credit.

The bottom line

Before you put your next big trip on a credit card, consider the BankAmericard Travel Rewards® credit card. Not only does the card give you some time to pay off the balance interest-free, but you’ll also double your rewards if you book it through the Bank of America® Travel Center. And if you happen to have a Bank of America® checking or savings account or you’re a Preferred Rewards client, you can earn a 10%, 25%, 50% or 75% point bonus.
